Exclamation fallen headliner

hello all, Just like some other members, my headliner has turned into a drape. If I cut off the sagging area will that cause any issues when I have it fixed by a profesional? My car feels so ghetto the liner is resting on my head when I drive, and it is driving me nuts. Any suggestions? I have to spend about six hundred on my bike, before I can deal with this.

thanks, chris

Question Re: fallen headliner

Was at auto zone and notice they have a repair kit, with a syringe and some type of adhesive for this type of repair , anyone tried it?

You could always go get some new fabric and some spray on fabric adhesive and redo it. Fabric can be had at many different places, just a matter of what you want. Spray adhesive is sold at autostores, walmart, etc. Easiest way is to start over and redo the whole thing. I have never had good luck with "patch jobs".

Mine is starting to loosen up a bit on the front edge by windshield too. I may be redoing mine very soon. Probably go black or maybe black with a little red sewn into it for color and to match red highlights in cab and outside of car??? May recover inside door while doing this anyway and add some red im there also? Hmmmm. We will see.

Question Re: fallen headliner

I am not looking to patch anything, already tried that. The trim pieces are the only things holding it up. I just want to cut it out for now until I can get it repaired properly by a professional.

Just buy some new fabric and redo it yourself. It will look as good as pro job and not hard to do. Also, I had a 07 ZX14 too. I kinda miss that bike. It was a blast to ride. Rocking a zx12 now. Good luck with headliner.

I had mine re-done by a headliner place. I bought the carbon fiber fabric for $75 and paid them $100 to attach it. Install was pretty easy. It looks really nice compared to the factory headliner or the nasty foam left behind once it falls out completely. I would recomend a headliner shop because the fabric is so thin it may wrinkle and they use industrial adhesive.

Or to $ave

Go to a fabric shop and just get a fabric that is foam reinforced and 3M rattle can it. Spray both surfaces and let sit for about 2-5 minutes before attaching. Have at least one other person (2 would be better) hold the corners taught while you press down from the center out.

This crap is contagious.. noticed mine has pulled loose a little over the drivers side just off the center rib! Now I'm wondering if adheasive sprayed in at the ovehead light opening and a wall paper seam roller wouldn't put it back into perspective...

Looks like I may be redoing mine in the next week or two. Driving with windows down last weekend and it came loose at driver side front corner of windshield. You know, I looked at 3 or 4 different xfires before buying mine and they all had headliner issues. So much for the factory adhesive I guess. I will post pics after I redo mine. On call this weekend so may be the next one...we will see??? Think I may go with black since I dont have any black on my car, lol

Order twice the material you'll need.. and if you do a good job on the first try.. well guess I could let you do mine.. LOL.
Can you define "reshaped headlights and tail lights" ? Inquiring minds want to know.. Oh..and an oem color would really be nice..

Just a thought: I have noticed that on some XF's, that the sagging headliner MAY indicate a water leak. Especially if the headline problem is in the back hatch area. XF's have had leaking problems under the wing on both the NA & SRT. I would check in the area where the emergency flat tire equipment is in the back. If you have water there, you have a problem that you need to get to quickly or it will cause bigger problems. Just speaking from experience. Good luck!

What is Carbon Fiber "fabric" & where do you get it? I assume it is blackish colour, did you put it in where a beige headliner was and if so does it look OK? My support ppillars are all a light beige and I'm wondeing if a different contrasting colour is used for the headliner if it will look odd and not match up?

Any pictures from anyone who has beige pillars and replaced with a different colour liner?

Thanks,

Steve

You are all a bunch of ROOKIES with this car.

You CAN NOT patch the headliner. FORGET ABOUT IT. It won't work. The headliner is going to fall down on each of your heads. It is a VERY common problem with the crossfire and has happened to most of us already. It could be a combination of bad glue from the factory with the fact our headliners were never fully wrapped properly.

Save yourself the time and trouble. Have a headliner guy do the job for 140 dollars which includes the material and labor. That is what I did. That seems to be the price that most people paid (some people paid less).

Don't go to the dealer. They will probably charge about 500-600 dollars and put the same old garbage on. Just have it done by a local expert. They will use new material that looks identical to the original... it will be done right and it will never fall on your head again!

A waste of time and money. You will be at a professional getting it done correctly soon enough. Patch it up all you want... That thing will fall right down on your head soon enough. But what do I know????? 7 years of ownership means nothing around here. That and a token will get me on a subway.
