Weird problems with electronics in these cars is often the battery or corroded battery connections and cables. Take a REAL close look at the battery terminals, including where the ground cable attaches to the fender/body.

Try to determine the age of the battery, they are usually stamped with an installation date. If the battery is a White "Varta" battery, it may be original, and that's just too old!
