Once he has an accident, and he will, insurance will become a big issue. You are also missing an opportunity to teach him not to ever put all the money he has into anything. Not only what was said here, but "the car of his dreams"? Really?
He is 16 - and to have a car of his dreams at that age REALLY sends the wrong message. His dreams SHOULD be about the right career, education, etc. There is a LIFETIME coming up for him to reap the rewards of the hard work of getting an education and building a career and future.
Besides, $900 of tires every 30,000miles (IF you drive it GENTLY), oil changes that cost over $60 if you do them at HOME - sports cars are NOT cheap to maintain. And just wait till you have an issue that takes troubleshooting or a $1200 module. Even I, at age 53, dread that day......
