Unhappy Would you recommend?

Hi. I need advice from honest Crossfire owners. I'm looking at a 06 Crossfire 6 speed. It has 8000k hids (I have no idea what that means) and 140,000 miles. I'm a single Mom putting myself through nursing school and this is the car my 16 year old son wants. He got a settlement from fathers death and is spending every penny on this car. I'm scared that with that many miles that the car will not be reliable and I've heard others say how expensive parts and labor are on these cars. I can not afford to help him in any way if this car needs repairs. If you we're in my shoes would you advise me to allow him to purchase this car? I want him to have the car of his dreams but not if I can't afford to buy tires or help with repairs. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I hate to be honest - it's against my nature, BUT : at 140,000 miles, as an only car, with no budget for repairs or even maintenance items this may not be the best choice.

First of all .... where are u located .... there are members that would help you evaluate the car. I agree this may not be the car for him (you). How much is it? Unless someone with knowledge checks it out, don't just jump in. There are plenty of high mileage Crossies out there and still doing fine, but they probably have owners that have maintained them correctly. Many things need to be checked. Good Luck

Edit: you've come to the right place

I'm in Tulsa, OK but the car is in Tahlequah, OK about a hour away. The owner is asking $6,300 which is the cheapest Crossfire I have found. I am taking friend with me today to look at car who is airplane mechanic but knows nothing about Crossfires. I think I have my answer just from the two replies I've already gotten to this post which is exactly what my gut was telling me, not to buy this car.

hi.about 18 months ago I was in the same boat as you.my 16 year old son wanted a crossfire also.he loved the way it looked and drove.i,as a parent liked the safety features, crash protection.these cars are very safe.the only thing we have done to his car is new tires, they are not cheap.we do our own oil changes.dealership repairs can be expensive.his car is a 2004 with 50,000 miles.there are many low milege cars out there.i would keep looking,140,000 is to many miles for me.if you can find one with a full service history that would be even better.good luck.

Well I'm going to call the owner and tell him we are not buying the car. I want to thank everyone that replied to my post. I truly appreciate you taking the time to help me out and we will keep looking and praying we come across a Crossfire with less miles that we can afford. Thank you again!

What a sixteen year old boy needs is safe reliable transportation to school and work. Maintenance and repair bills aside, have you priced the insurance? Once he has an accident, and he will, insurance will become a big issue. You are also missing an opportunity to teach him not to ever put all the money he has into anything. In a few years, when he's a little more independent and working you can revisit this forum and I'm sure some member in the Oklahoma area will be more than happy to help him find a Crossfire. You might explain to him the prices will come down even more (unfortunately) by then and he will get a better deal on a lower mileage car. Good luck.

Hello in OK, I agree that one with 140,000 miles might quickly overwhelm your son and his budget. There are some deals out there but you have to be on the lookout and be prepared to move fast. Check out these recent E-Bay listings . . .

This one may still be available . . . suggest you might try to contact the seller . . .

Here's one that just recently sold for only $4,500.00 and it had a clear title!

Good luck on your hunt . . .

Just a quick search reveals there are a few candidates offered here in the Miami area . . .

chrysler crossfire 2004

chrysler crossfire 2004 99k

2004 chrysler crossfire $5500 obo

Suggest you do a search on your local Craigslist for "Crossfire" and see what comes up . . .

By the way . . . 8000k hids means it has high intensity discharge headlights. 8000k refers to the "color" frequency of the light that the bulbs put out . . . which is too high and would appear like having purple headlights.

Not only what was said here, but "the car of his dreams"? Really?

He is 16 - and to have a car of his dreams at that age REALLY sends the wrong message. His dreams SHOULD be about the right career, education, etc. There is a LIFETIME coming up for him to reap the rewards of the hard work of getting an education and building a career and future.

Besides, $900 of tires every 30,000miles (IF you drive it GENTLY), oil changes that cost over $60 if you do them at HOME - sports cars are NOT cheap to maintain. And just wait till you have an issue that takes troubleshooting or a $1200 module. Even I, at age 53, dread that day......
