I am in the middle of this procedure and made it to the end where the assembly is out and the latch is open. When I opened the latch, I did not see a pin or spring. My question is how obvious is this spring and pin? Will it shoot out of the opening once the latch is open? I'm guessing either I've done something wrong or the previous owner has already completed it. Thanks to anyone with info.

If there is no spring or pin under the cover then you can be assured the PO removed it.
If the PO was there before you the cover would be really dented up because the same cover goes back on at the end of the procedure.

A group in southern michigan found two 2008's that didn't have the pin! I wonder if Laminad's car (if it is not a 2008) has had a replacement ignition lock put in and I wonder when the mfr. started leaving out the precious pin & spring? The pin that would come out would look like these.....
