No, there is a terrible delay with manually commanded shifts with the automatic trans. It is not enjoyable like a DSG. I have not driven one with a retuned TCU, but I don't believe the TCU tune cures this. Plan on leaving it in automatic mode and letting it choose the shifts for you. The transmission logic is actually very good at selecting the right gear to be in.
