The 229.5 spec is basically an upgraded list to the older 229.3 spec and includes many additional 0W-40 grade oils that were probably not available for the 229.3 spec testing, or were tested after the previous spec. You'll find the same changes going on with the 236.xx ATF trans fluids.

FYI - most Chrysler/Merc dealers in the south use Pennzoil 5W-40 as the OEM replacement for their dealer oil changes!
