Does everyone actually use Mobil1 0W-40?
Re: Does everyone actually use Mobil1 0W-40?
MB also recommends other oils as well.
You have to ignore sales pitches. LOL
Re: Does everyone actually use Mobil1 0W-40?
The Mobil 1 0w-40 seems to be in a shortage. Most Oil changers do not have it. Chrysler sent a memo out to all dealers to start using 5W-40 now, to get a better price. Wal- Mart and Auto Zone about the only ones who carry it here in the west, and they never seem to have all 9.5 Qrts. So I have been using 5W-40 and change the Oil and filter every 7000 miles. Running well.

Kendal is supposed to be very good but is difficult to find.
I'll use what oil is close to the weight. Living in Southern Florida a 5-x would not be bad. i am looking for a cooler T-stat but it seems only the 188* is available so a bit heavier oil is fine for me. It's been 14 years since my SLK hit the streets and oils have changed since then with many good synthetics out there.

So, here we are, 4 years later, with even more advanced lubrication synthetic oils on the market. I hear a lot about the Amsoil products, but haven't compared specs. They claim NO WEAR DETECTED in their testimonial advertisements, naturally. The engineers did pick the Mobil1 , 0-40 for our crossfires in 2004, 15 years ago. I wonder if the recommended oil for the MB was a Mobil synthetic or something else.
...Mobil mental excercise....Put the word Exxon in front of the word Mobile and tell me the first major event that comes to mind....Peace

I use Mobil 1 European Car Formula, which wasn't available when the Crossfire was being built, and possibly not when this thread started. I drive my Crossfire 12 months a year in the El Paso climate, and use 5W-40 when I can find it, otherwise 0-40. I change oil yearly, always at less than 7000 miles.
I don't know if the European car Formula is different (except for the label ); but the engineers at Mobil are smarter than I, and they may have added "secret ingredients" to the regular oil they sell.

YES! I own a Mercedes 2005 CLK 500. It has the M113 engine, which is basically the Crossfires M112 engine but two additional cylinders. Mercedes recommended oil for the CLK is also Mobile1 0-40w. However, the recommended oil change interval is 12,000 or 14,000 miles.

Like others, I've used the Mobil 1 0w40 product, which is a European formula for respective marques. Always find it on the shelf at Wal-Mart, both in 5 quart jugs & 1 quart bottles. Typically, as economical as any product from other main-stream synthetic brands. Nearly always much cheaper than Amsoil, Royal Purple or any other specialty brand. And like others, I install 8 quarts of oil during an oil/filter change. While the fleece filter element is not required on the NA engines, I use it because I feel (don't know) the filtration level is better than the paper filter element. With my driving habits, an oil change for me is every 2 years and getting to 7000 miles is a rarity. No issues after 11 years of ownership.

Dont think you "need" the Fleece filter?
Fine. GO buy a paper filter, run the car 3000 miles or so. Now, take the filter out and look at it - my SE had a paper filter in it when I got it home, less than 1000 miles on it - collapsed.
If a collapsed oil filter is good enough for you, please indicate that when you put the car up for sale.

I checked Amazon.ca and they are $17 and change each, buy three and they are $71 and change, amazing there must be some up charge for bulk buying. Free shipping though. 🙄

Keep the oil changes at your mileage you do now.
