Does everyone actually use Mobil1 0W-40?
I find it hard to believe that 5W-40 (or even 5W-30) would not work just as well and it is definitely more common in this immediate area. Wouldn't 5W-40 or 5W-30 work in a XF? Also, why Mobil1? There are many other brands out there that one would think would be just as good.

Car has the oil it wants in writing in the engine bay... can't argue with that!
So... wait for it to go on sale and get a little extra.

I've thought long and hard about changing. But, why change without a good reason? Therefore I began sending oil samples to a lab and discovered just how well what I've used has protected my engine. So, yes, I've always used Mobil 1 0W-40 and most likely always will.

Many here will tell you all different things but ........
Mobil 1 0W40 has proven to be an outstanding oil and I personally have used it exclusively for 8 years and 80,000 miles

At the Dealership (Mercedes) we put in Mobil1 5W40. Generally anything that is "European formula" synthetic, which will be a 0w40 or 5w40 meets or exceeds the ratings that the old M112/3 engines required. Obviously there is a bit of discussion about the diesel 5w40 oils (shell rotella t6, which technically isn't synthetic according to European standards), but usually it'll say "meets VW #...MB#...and BMW#.... Also, most M112/113 motors start to tick either from chain noise or carbon buildup on the valves. I regularly see these engines with 200+k on them even though they've had questionable maintenance. Keep in mind this engine family was used in virtually every MB model from 1998-2004, they're tough.
Well, I guess that I'm a minority of one. I have been using Royal Purple 0w40 since I bought the car in 2012, no problems. There are several other brands that I would have no reservations using.
Why do you ask? Walmart 5-qt. jugs are $23.50. Same as the other well-known brands of synthetic.
I use Mobil 1 in my lawn mower!

So do I, heck I even drink a small glass at breakfast each day.
OK. That explains why you're such a "smooth" character!

Before you buy a forum members car you have to look at their past posts to see if they have done something you do not agree with, like cheaping out on oil.
Padgetts car is now in this category. Although I guess with the Sawzall mod it was already there.
