You have to know the context of the comment. Mobil 1 0w-40 is a real good oil for an internally stock engine. That good compared to what? Other viscosity's, don't know if all are good or not. The Mobil 1 hate comes from owners of internally modified engines with aggressive cam profiles that wiped the cam lobes off the shaft when the recipe was changed years ago. At least that's what I've read and been told.

As far as the contaminants … I don't believe it for an instant. I have oil reports on my used oil. No signs of anything abnormal or unusual. No contaminants.

I've read really good reports on the Pennzoil 5W-40 Ultra.
