I have done 60,000 miles of oil changes on these cars. I have never seen a Fleece filter physically compromised as I took it out.
In the car I just bought, it had a paper filter, and it had collapsed/crushed/compromised.

I would not use a paper filter before, and I sure as hell wouldn't now.
