I would think trying to get a statement of a firm completion date would at least give him a recourse to follow up on at that point. Given his clear disregard for DJ's request, he could say he had cost over runs, and with no contract which states a clear completion date, put a bill on it which is more than the car is worth. I would get it and leave with what I could. Repo guys are the best when it comes to stealth... in and out.
