I think you have missed the point, no glass or whatever to fill that rectangular space in makes the hole a funnel for all the crud that comes at it.

I assumed "ruin" the light meant just that.. the light will survive. I also have a complete spare set.. along with a "fixable" broke mount one. So this is a non issue likewise for quite a while. I would almost think removing the gray "funnel" plate and inserting a round sealed unit and making a lexan plate to "replace" the OEM glass lens would be the route to go for a decent look if you don't want to shell out the bucks on a replacement. A lexan plate wont sit flush with the "funnel" still in place.
