Hmm rubber surrounds instead of the foam. Where did you come by those? I had the same idea. I recently repaired the passenger side sub with a kit from simply speakers (works like new now). I was tempted to spray the foam with a light coat of flex seal (the rubber spray advertised on tv), but ultimately chose not to.
