I've added one more step to the manual process. After I finish the up or down process, I turn the engine off. I leave the engine off for two minutes. That seems to be the amount of time it takes the control system to go to sleep and the light on the power-up-power-down switch to go out. Once it goes out, (and it always seems to be right at two minutes), then it stays off after I start the engine up. I don't get any beeping at all following that system.
@pizzaguy and keithtexas - thank you so much for your fast responses. your information is awesome. So: I tried idle-ing the engine and manually bringing the top up and down 3-4 times. I'm still having a beeping issue. I HAVE NOT yet tried Keith's method to leave the engine off for 2 minutes and start it up again. I will try now. I called Chrysler and they said they have an in house Crossfire specialist that could re calibrate the sensors: i have an appointment Tuesday in the event I can't fix this myself.
One last question: if I try Keith's approach and am still unsuccessful, would disconnecting the battery reset the system or is that a bad idea? I definitely would like to avoid leaving a "blank check" at Chrysler
