THe service manual says that it is a low coolant light.
The manual is wrong. Ok, let's call it "misleading".
The light indicates that something is wrong:
- The coolant level in the reserve tank is low.
- The coolant level sensor in the reserve tank is defective.
- The engine temperature is above 2xx degrees (not sure what temp, I believe above 220F)
- The Fan Control Module is indicating that the current flowing thru the engine cooling fan is either lower than expected or higher than expected.
- The Fan Control Module is not communicating at all with the ECM.
And probably other stuff I don't know about.
From what you describe, I'd suspect the most likely issue with your car is (in descending order of likelihood) 2, 1 or 4.
