If the radio is doing what you describe, I'd think the switched A+ fuse for hte radio is blown, but the battery fuse for the radio is NOT blown. That is, it has lost it's ignition sense.
Check the box under the hood, driver's side. THere are TWO fuses for the radio: 1 is battery feed, 1 is accessory feed.
