I can't stand people parking next to me even though I park really far away.

Even though I don't have a new XF, about a month ago I got an '04 gray coupe, and so I'm in love with it. I took it to school and parked FAR far away and so as I'm leaving class at night and walking to my car I realize that there's someone parked really close to my car and I got freaked out a little, and so they open their car and this girl jumps out and goes "is this your car?" I was thinking, don’t you see me opening my trunk. She goes "I just scratched your car" as soon as she said that I FREAKED OUT! " I was like come on now, what the *F***K!@#!@!!!" so she goes on to tell me that she was leaving me a note but had planned on running away. So I couldn't really assess the damage since it was pitch black, but the next day she had scratched the rear bumper pretty badly. What an a_hole! Total damage costs about $450, which she's paid $200 so far. Ughhh it's just annoying. to top it off, she goes, "I wasn't really paying attention".
Well no F***kin' kidding!

It annoys me so much and I'm so glad to vent here, because when I keep telling my fiancé how much it annoys me, he probably thinks I’m obsessed with my car (which I am ).

So what to do about these morons who ding our cars??? I want revenge!!!

Instead of trying to park alone at the far end of the lot, I try to find someone else who has already done that to protect their ride, then park near (but not close) to them on the driver's side of their car.

I figure that someone else who has parked remotely to protect their car will respect my car AND that two cars parked remote but near each other don't draw the attention of those as*h**es that like to park their sh**boxes right on top of a nice ride.

I don't have to join a health club. I always park in the most remote spot I can find and just walk. Even my wife (who doesn't give much of a hoot about cars) will do the same. The only real problem is in the city with parallel parking. Always someone in a huge whatever wants park in the space left.

My wife picks on me for parking way out. I sit in restaurants where I can watch my car and have been known to move it in the middle of a meal - sometimes several times. I hate SUVs full of kids. I have only owned my Crossfire Limited 06 for two weeks. It is Black and would really show a door ding. I am this way with all my cars and always have been. Some times I will just meet my wife at a restaurant on the way home and let her park next to me to block out other drivers (curb divider on one side and her car on the other).

It'll be a cold day in an exceptionally warm place before I let a valet drive my car!

Its an easy fix, if you find a ding, and know who did it, carry some heavy gauge nails and place one under each tire. Maybe even leave a note. That's what I'd do.

There is a product called Door Defender that is magnetic. I have only had my XFire two weeks so I have not done much to it but these look promising. http://www.doordefender.com/howtoo.html Is a link for more information. Has anyone tried these? I may give them a try so my wife can drive the car to work occasionally with out me worrying all day.

My first protectors were magnetic...make sure they are strong magnets and protected so they don't scratch your doors or blow off your car in the wind. Mine blew off which is why I went with another way to attach them.

Why is it that no matter where I pick to park my Crossfire someone has to park closely right next to it even when every other space is open? This really pisses me off and it seems to happen often!! Today I stopped at a bakery for a cake and some dumb *** woman parked her mini van right next to my car so close that her passenger rear tire was over the line in my space. Let me mention that there were 8 other spaces to the left she could have chosen. Then she proceeded to get out and come around to get her little kid out and didn't have enough room to walk between her van and my car. So she gets back in her mini van and backs up and moves it over about a foot and pulls back into the exact same space again and gets out and gets the kid out and comes into the bakery where I am standing and have been watching her every move out in the parking lot. I wanted to ask her what her problem was but my wife didn't want me to cause a seen as she new I was ready to ream her a new A**hole by now. I always try to park away from other cars but it never fails some A**hole parks right next to me. I am proud of the no ding condition of my Crossfire and would like to keep it this way. Anybody else feel my frustration ??
I would love to hear from others here in the forum.

I'm just like you are about this; but you wording makes it sound as if you are parked in front of the business which would not be defensive parking.
I would never park diagonally in two spaces.(asking for trouble) However, I do park "off" just enough to make any idiot not want to be next to me. I also know in most places I frequent which areas of the lots do not tend to fill : and even more so in decks. Speaking of those, when going to a doctors appt., I park on the very top or quite close to it. I would guess that seventy percent of ill or elderly should not be driving to the doctor ...or at all.

A fellow defensive parker,
RP

You will be pleased to know that the erratic parkers have relatives living in Australia.
I prefer to park in "nose to tail" parking areas to protect the doors from dents. Unfortunately the park-by-ear and park-by-feel groups are active in these areas.
PS We also have the Dent Doctors.

Unhappy Re: Parking Lots / Parking Spaces

In New Zealand these cars cost NZ $75,000 new, = US $54,000. I recently bagged a Blaze Red Coupe, built 07/04, for just NZ$26,000 at 38,000 kms. Scoop! Well, with plenty of small scratches, and 4 graunched wheels, and worn Michelins, but NO DOOR DINGS, and an immaculate leather interior, and a spotless engine-bay. Well, on a Friday at 2 pm, a wild woman tried to squeeze between parallel-parked me and waiting traffic. Idiot said, "I misjudged coming through. I thought I could get through, but obviously I couldn't." Only one end of my back bumper got swiped, and only paint off, and plastic lens broken, but $1,000 estimate. Her old Honda was battle scarred. My insurance got agreement from her insurance to pay fully. I'm convinced she thought this will hurt you more than it hurts me, not seeing me sitting in it. I wrote down her explanation in front of her to give insurance. The body shop wants to take the bumper off, but I'd rather the painted it without. I hate sloppy reassemblies.

Thanks for another "Down Under" story & a Big Welcome to the Forum!
Wow, I should have sold by SSB Ltd Roadster to someone in NZ or AU.
Those prices are Crazy.
Just got back in June from a 51 day cruise from Sidney to Anchorage & spent about 7 days in NZ & we just loved both Countries & the Great people. In fact we had an Auzzie couple sit with us at dinner all the way to HNL, had a Great time with them on and off the Ship!

Welcome again.

BTW, you guys can watch over the Forum at night (Ours) & we will watch over it during our day.

Again this week ...
Dumb **** parks his HUGE SUV right next to me way out at the end of the lot.
Plenty of other spaces but no right next to me.
Luckily I was still in the car so I moved it before he even opened his door.
WTF ?? Are our cars just a magnet to every inconsiderate dumb **** out there ?
