Replaced my noisy alternator. It was working fine, but at idle it was making a pulsing/rattling/buzzing noise. Only did it at idle but it was annoying!!

Went back to Pick-N-Pull and grabbed the alternator from the 2004 XF with 99K on it that just showed up Nov 29th. $19.99 compared to $279 for an alternator from the chain parts store.

I also grabbed the negative battery cable (mine had an emergency terminal), the passenger side door airbag (my car is throwing a passenger side bag ignition circuit code), and the rubber thing that goes around the base of the windshield wiper.

Got the alternator swapped out in 23 minutes!! No more noise. While disconnecting my negative battery cable I noticed that the positive battery cable terminal was in pretty bad shape, no tin coating left on it. The positive cable on the XF at the wrecking yard was in good shape so I will go back Saturday and grab that.

Off to work!!

Jared

I made some more progress over the weekend but I still have a little ways to go. with the LCD install. At this point, I wanted to get everything in so I can start using the car as I have some much needed suspension work to do on my other car (squeaky bushings) and I dont want to use my truck as my daily driver because it takes forever to warm up.

Below is a video of what I have as of tonight.

What is working so far
- Touch screen in center console along with all the buttons in the software (spoiler control, esp, heated seats, etc)
- RPM's
- Speed - compared and calibrated against phone gps for right now
- High Beam indicator
- blinkers
- capacitive touch controls
- maps/gps
- odometer
- inside temp
- door sensors

What I still need to program
- Gear indicators (I already found the canbus values from the center shiftier and just need to program them)
- Coolant Temp
- Oil Temp
- Battery Voltage
- Gas Guage
- light sensor for brightness
- data from backup and blind spot radars (aftermarket ones I installed a while back)
- data from radar detector (still working on decoding the data)

I also have to realign the gauges so they do not appear cutoff at the top as well as finish making the bezel going around the entire screen but I am happy to say it is ok to drive right now. The screen looks a bit washed out because of the camera but it looks very decent in person. I have it dimmed to the minimum brightness right now but it does get extremely bright which is great for direct sunlight. Since I wanted to get it installed and not have to take it out again, I also added two serial spare serial connectors to the arduino that I can access from the side fuse panel for the lights. This will give me the option to expand and add new features as I go along without having to rip everything out . When I get everything finished and pretty looking, I will be sure to do a detailed video on how it works and looks.

PS, If anyone happens to have a list of canbus addresses and values, I would love to have a chat

I installed the 04’ Auto dimming mirror on my 05’ SRT6. I followed OKC-XFR instructions. Thank you for the step by step easy peezy. The part I was sent had two connections not just the one. Even though OKC-XFR said there was no other connections that existed, I still was wondering where that other part lead too so I traced the line back to the A-Pillar. There was a connecting line but no way of connecting the other part that was cut from the previous car. I’m attaching a picture to show you what I’m talking about. Maybe someone else can figure it out. I didn’t want to spend more time on it than I already had. Again thank OKC-XFR. Oh and are you in the Oklahoma City area? I live there as well would be cool to have a Crossfire get together.

Do not overthink the problem, you only have to connect the two wires shown in the PDF, the other wire is for connection to a wire that contains a reverse signal. This signal will switch off the dimming function and show the image in the mirror at full brightness. I connected just the two wires and insulated the third wire. I found this to cause no problem and since that time I have fitted a reverse camera so the problem is solved anyway.

BTW, IF your talking about the other 'harness', it looks like the TPMS dongle (5 wires and one blank slot). Have fun!

I meant to say I got everything installed correctly. It’s worked like a charm just didn’t know if it could be wired in like that. The answer is no. The reverse option isn’t really needed all that much, rarely am I backing up with a jacked up truck with a bright *** light bar behind me lol. It’s definitely a nice addition. Chrysler really went cheap by putting it only in the 04’s and excluded the other years. Probably just ran out of them in the parts bin or were just cutting corners. Who knows, they seemed to not care much for the car once they realized it wasn’t selling like they thought.

Cheers everyone and Merry Christmas 🎁🎄. Be safe out there, I’ve been seeing a lot of XF’s on the Facebook groups getting sideswiped by people.

I installed a backup camera yesterday. Man I gotta say, it makes life a helluva lot easier. I'll take some pictures tonight or tomorrow.

No i just took my mirror off and sit it on the rubber. Pushed down to mark the holes took a drill bit to make the holes and scissors to cut shape. Taking the mirror off took the longest.

Changed the air filters on the new to me 05 coupe, as I did not see them specifically listed in service records, car has 75k on the clock, they weren't original unless the factory tech had greasy fingers, but didn't do well on a light test. Lots of bug carcuss and moth wings in there, and cottonwood fluff. Come spring I may treat underside of black plastic housing to reflect/insulate heat cause engines love cold dense air.
