Default CPS redo

With all the discussion on replacing the CPS, and yes, I carry a spare Bosch and ratchet and #8 torx socket in the car, has any one tried just taking it out and cleaning with solvent, squirting some contact cleaner on and putting it back in? It isn't an extremely complicated device, no moving parts and doesn't appear to make direct physical contact. So what fails? Does it work loose from vibration creating a slightly bigger gap or does the tip collect a bit of crud or what? Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys or gals can give us some insight. It doesn't seem logical that the designers would include a part that failed on such a regular basis.
