Default drilling...struck metal

I am installing a cup holder between the seats, on the bulkhead separating the cabin from the trunk.

As I was drilling (near the center of the wall, less than an inch from the top) I hit a metal surface. Is this my gas tank? Or, will I just drill through the metal, into empty space?

If you haven't heard any sloshing and since it's higher than your fuel filler tube, there's a good chance that it's not your fuel tank.

The gas tank is the silver object.

A picture is worth a thousand words they say.

The picture was the best idea! Thanks 180! It was that horizontal, rectangular support that I drilled into. I shall continue!

If I did not give you the credit you deserved, Jefasold, I apologize. The picture was truly worth a 1000 words, though: The cup holder is mounted, and the pouch below it is still useful for trash.

No apology needed, 180 did us all a service with that pic, I knew it wasn't the fuel tank but didn't know exactly what it looked like under there, since I haven't had the need to remove the trunk liners. Maybe in the future when I change the shocks. Good luck with your project, show some pics of the process and end result

Post some pics when you are done, Sandy. Interested to see what you did. Are you going to the Rim this Saturday?

I will get some pictures, Greg. I am sorry I won't be able to get to the rim this Saturday. I hope y'all go and have fun! But an early Soccer game and birthday for my 2 grandson's prevent my attendance. I have already been chastised for not putting my Crossfire first!

I drew a cross and some fire (image) and like the way it came out. May make a hat and t-shirt with the image on it. Possibly superimposing the cross over the fire? Just experimenting...
