When the temperature hits 4 I look for things to do inside. So today I sorted and catalogued all my crossfire stuff. Many of it was very routine - sales brochures, etc. but one piece was really different.

It was the one thing that started my collecting Crossfires. It was the was the 71 st Geneva International motor show press package and the autobahn 66 brochure.

What do you have that is unique to you and the crossfire?

 

Since I am kinda new to the show I have not been able to find a whole lot of Crossfire stuff but, I did find a pristine German sales brochure on ebay that I display with the car at shows. Can't read but ten words in the whole thing but since the car was built there I thought it was kinda cool. I have a U.S. version I picked up back in 2005 that I kept so it's not to hard to decipher. I also have a four panel foldout of the 2005 SRT models that includes a pic of the SRT-6.

 

Nothing special, just a lot of stuff.

XJken and 180 those are really cool and really enhance the ownershipexoerience of the Xfire. I thought over the holiday I'd put together a list of my publications so people could add to it so maybe we can have a list of some value to future and present collectors and owners.

It has been my experience that if we don't gather this stuff now it will be lost to posteriority. That has been my experience with my cars from the 50s thru the 70s in my collection. I have a Z3 in there from 1999 and even that can be difficult to find stuff/brochures from that year and model. Likewise some of what I call the lost years for the Xfire are difficult -- 2006 thru 2008. Not much was produced during those years. SRT unique stuff is also not that readily available.

Hard copy service manuals are really probably going to be none existant down the road. Seems like stuff like window stickers and owner's manual seem to get thrown away as the cars go through the transition from new cars, to used cars, to transportation, to disposable/junkers cars and then on the back side from interesting, to restorable, to collectible, to period cars to perhaps even valuable again.

Can you tell us about this SRT brochure. What is the number on the back? When and here did you find this. This is unique; real nice find.

My wife and I were car shopping back in 2005 and one of the Dodge dealers we stopped at had these on their brochure rack. It measures 9 1/2" x 7" with a matte finish but the vehicles are glossy in case you can not see it in the photos. I did not see any numbers on the back except for the year . I have no idea why the first and last pics are sideways. (Thanks to who ever fixed that by the way, Merry Christmas)

I don't need any booklets with pictures. I have one of these fine crossfire beauties in the garage to look at.

I don't need any pamphlets telling me about the car. I already know how it drives. I just turn the key, put the car in first gear and hit the gas.

And I don't take my car to car shows. My car gets plenty of looks as I fly past the other cars on the road.

 

That's all well and good, but if you ever do want to show it at car shows, every piece of information you can display about the car helps. I didn't get many questions or looks until displaying articles about the cars. Many people didn't even know Chrysler had an SRT version, let alone the power train difference. Since the info has been displayed, the questions are up, and they haven't failed to bring home some cheap plastic trophies to gather cob webs in the garage...

 

I'll second that. In 2012 I attended quite a few shows and took 1 1st and 1 3Rd and had no information to display. In 2013 I added a small display board with copies of my original window sticker and an info sheet that I made up myself. Also, I included a list of my modifications. I took 1 2nd and 6 1st places.

I have some of the normal stuff, brochures and whatnot, but my favorite is probably Eric Stoddard's signiture on my custom carbon fiber headliner in the car.

Also, I am working on a full, working rear end of XF with lights, plate, etc to hang on the wall of my basement, like it crashed through the wall

Great work. I'll have to remember that when I show the Xfire.

Each year I special one of the roadsters at the local shows. We only have three up my way. Last year I did the Triumph 1960 TR3A and for 2014 I'm going to do the TR6 (1975). Worked last summer to make it more presentable --I did rhe seat foams, window rubbers and top of the interior of the doors, restored and installed a 45 year old luggage rack. Did some minor paint work and rebuilt the carbs. I was able to find a OEM period correct bra for the front to protect the paint while I drive it.

BoilerupXfire. That sounds amazing. How in the world did you find and get Eric to do that? Do you do that kind of work for a living?

 

I have a small Crossfire collection. Unique items include the factory computer based training CD's. I have the Specialist Introduction, and the Convertible and Supercharger engine update. My son gave me the Crossfire model set which matches our own cars. I have a red Special Edition convertible, and he has the dark grey coupe.

On this topic, I've been looking for the Crossfire service technician clip board. It's made out of aluminum. Does anyone have one or a picture of it?

 

It is just a CF fabric type wrap, we removed the headliner, stripped it, and refitted it with the CF, looks amazing IMO and shows off the senter spine much better. I also did SLK32 black visors to finish it off...

Eric was at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit the last few years hanging out with the 30+ strong XFs that attend that show and signed some things. If you are anywhere near Michigan you should consider the show, the largest gathering of custom, antique, and classic cars in North America, very fun time, hell even if you aren't close, consider it

 

Most impressive. Since my Xfire decided to shed its headliner, I've been trying to find a shop to install a new one. The ones I've found around here won't do a Xfire.

How difficult was it to pull the headliner - is it plastic, hard foam, cardboard? I'm looking at the old foam/glue as i pulled the fabric off, but can't figure out what the thing is made of or exactly how to get it out of the car.

As far as memorabilia goes, all I have is the sales stuff the folks at Chrysler sent me after I stopped by a dealership to look at his cars. Did come with a DVD though. I think its a great idea to track that stuff down now while it is still available.

 

It is made from a cardboard type material, a little more substantial, but easy to mess up. You can only go in and out one way, through the door openings, but it took some manuvering for us, plus moving the seats, steering wheel, and rolling the windows down. In the end, you have to bend part of it, but its not too bad.

Something any enthusiast can do, just takes time and patience...
