2004 Crossfire Totaled
2004 Crossfire Totaled
I've got a question for my fellow board members.
Would you keep/buy back your Crossfire if it were totaled?
Just last week my 2004 Crossfire was rear-ended and the insurance companies deemed it totaled. It had 79,000 miles on the car and only 49,000 miles on a dealer warranted new engine. It was in near show room condition and is still very drivable.
The insurance company offered me $9360 for the loss and if I wanted to buy it back it would cost me $2600. They are paying for a rental car for 3 more days at which time it has to be returned and my crossfire has to be removed from the Body shop.
Damage includes: Rear bumper cover (destroyed), Hatch is sprung and dented but fully operational, Right rail is pushed in but I am told is a easy frame pull, Right quarter has slight buckle and the gap between it and the door is narrowed, Right rear tail light has a 1/2" lens break, Roof has a very small pimple from my head hitting it. By the way the body shop said it would be an easy fix but the parts were too expensive.
My thinking is that: 1) it may take several weeks to find a replacement Baby and rental car fees would add up. 2) It is still a very dependable car for $2600 and the damage isn't that bad. 3) I feel I should be able to get that back out of it when the time comes as salvage or sale or am I mistaken.
Any feed back and or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE. Just got my car back from the body shop and thought I would post some pics. Please note that the pics don't show the damage to the rt rear quarter and bumper very well. However the quarter panel damage is minimal other than being pushed forward and down a bit.

If you have the time & space to store the car then $2600 or the possibility of a junk price you can definitely make money using it as a parts car. The only drawback I see is that you will probably have to ship parts because there are not many local XF. Look on ebay to see what parts are selling for. Since the car is drivable buying the car back seems to be the best option. Just make sure your next car is a Crossfire.

Mine (front end damage) is in the back yard but had 85K on it I believe. I was offered ~7500 with a 1500 buy back. I had several modifications worth more than the 1500 so it was a no brainer. Id see if you could get it cheaper than that but it is still not bad.
I have been looking for an SRT but if it's a black coupe with a stick I might be interested in buying and putting my *** end on it depending on location etc.

I am sorry for your loss, sucks when you pamper your baby and stuff like this happen...
I had a good experience with this ebay seller (ebay page). I bought the front bumper, headlights and driver's front quarter panel for about half of the body shop estimate, including shipping to Puerto Rico (not cheap). All original Mopar parts. Name's Guillermo, great guy to work with. Shoot him a message and he can give you an estimate.
I'm in no way affiliated to the guy; just trying to help a fellow member. Good luck!

Would probably cost 1000 to get the transport but still worth it to me if I can just swap some panels and be back on the road. 9k is plenty to get back in an 04 and with less miles.
