Default Manual shifter **** question

I find that the shifter **** to be a little slick and not wanting to go the aftermarket route I am wondering if anyone have come of with a way to add a little more grip to the factory one.

I was thinking of something that would stick to shifter and have a rubber or texture surface. Back in the day I drove a Chevy Citation that the back window started falling out so I am an avid fan of the duct tape and they do come in a rainbow of colors these days. The gloves are a good idea and with Christmas just around the corner it could be like a free trail.
