Fully chrage your battery or if it is old buy a new one.

My XF does this every time I forget to connect the trickle charger.

If your alternator is not keeping your battery charged, either the alternator is bad or the battery is bad. (Unless you are storing the car, of course.)

Replace the battery and while you are at it, take a good look at the battery ground cable - when I bought my 05, in 2010, the ground cable had corroded and almost broke off at the chassis end. A new cable was $10 at O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Cleaning up the battery cable clamps and treating them is a good idea as well.

I took the car to advance and they told me my battery was bad. So before I dropped $153 on it I brought it home and hooked it to my voltage tester. Voltage was 12.6 when car was off and went up to 14.6 when I turned it on (headlights on too). So im not sure where to go now. I feel like that is plenty of power to crank it (it does, just slowly). What should I do now. Im trying to get the battery situation figured out so I don't need a jump off every time I go somewhere alone. Also, thanks for the help and quick responses.

Advance is also in the business to sell batteries. Just trying to make sure it is absolutely the battery and not a starter or alternator problem

I feel your pain, bud.

It may well show 12.6 at rest and 14.6 when charging but when it drops to 8 (slow cranking) it will confuse all the systems in the car.

Replace it. Shop around, but replace it.

If you want to try something before dropping the new battery cash, remove the negative cable ( BOTH ENDS ) and make sure you have no corrosion.
Also clean the positive battery terminal and cable for the same reason.
Then hook up a multimeter and have someone try to crank it, if the voltage drops like Max said ( and Advance's test also says you have a bad battery ),
then go ahead and get the new battery.

( you could also tell Advance / Autozone / Pep Boys / NAPA / O'Reillys that they can put the new battery in, and if it cranks like it should, then you will buy it. )

i know it's painful to come off that hundred fifty six dollars but your symptoms are classic bad battery, if you can't afford a new battery right now just drive it until you can, nobody really knows all the damage low voltage can do to these cars. but I can tell you this low voltage is very hard on every component in the starting system so don't wait too long good luck my friend.

If you buy from Advance, order it online and enter promo code D53 for a 15% discount and a coupon for a future discount. They've had better deals, but you don't have time to wait.

Advance Auto discount code WD514 will get you $40 off $100, or $50 off $125.

The 10,000 foot view:
You had the battery tested. Testing the battery is a waste of time, you need a new battery. Several of us have said the same thing. Get a battery.

The details:
YOu are measuring voltage, from the measurements you are getting, the system is charging just fine. The ONLY way the voltmeter is lying to you is if there is resistance in the battery connections (in the form of corrosion). If they don't look awful (either on the surface or when yanked from the posts where you can see the contact surfaces) then the battery has to be bad.

"Power":
Voltage is not power. Voltage times current is power. What is the battery voltage while the starter is cranking the engine? THAT voltage reading will tell you what is going on.

It really is as simple as that. Go get a battery.

It was a whole new ball game for me 3 1/2 years ago too.. Take some time when you can and just read through posts. Several members have been around quite a while and you can pretty much bank on the advice given..

Y'know-in the "old days" (no snide comments, please-I've heard them all) we used to crank the engine with the headlights on. If they went waaay dim: bad battery, or starter.
