Pizza's Odd Request
Ok, so you all see my sigline:
"Built on the Mercedes R170/SLK320 platform... the Crossfire has taken on, sort of, a cult following."
I need to know where it came from. Back sometime in the fall of 2009 or spring of 2010, I read something online or in a magazine where the author was talking about the Crossfire. He wrote a summary paragraph that went something like this:
Based on the Mercedes R170/SLK320 platform, the Crossfire was the last offering built with Mercedes' M112 V6 engine. Initial sales were slow and remained disappointing throughout its production run. Many units were offered thru alternative outlets at reduced price and even with celebrity endorsements, interest in the car remained weak. However, in recent years, the Crossfire has taken on, sort of, a cult following.
I have tried and tried to find it - I have a need to "source" the material. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can turn this up? I do not believe it was "Car and DRiver" or "Road and Track", this was kind of a "look back" on the car after it was discontinued. I THINK it was part of a piece that discussed several "marketing flops" in the auto industry - but it COULD have been something like ' "Five great buys in used sports cars" or something like that. I think it was something off the wall like "Consumer Reports" but I don't know. I have done some searches and have turned up nothing. USUALLY I can make google work for me, but I simply don't remember anything specific about the article. Help, please!

Well . . . I remember seeing that original line posted on a review of the Crossfire. I thought it would be easy to find it using Google but I can't find it either. Sorry . . .
I've had the sigline since about the time I bought the Graphite Roadster with a stick... that was December 21, 2010.
I'm pretty sure of that, I've had it for a HELL of a LONG time.
Hell, I took this job in November of 2011 and I am sure I have had that sigline since I moved here in late 2011.

^^ +1 on this, I think it was the guy that bumped into s group of CFs and wrote the article for a lesser known auto magazine.
Yea, but Dave, I don't change siglines nearly as often as YOU do!
I swear it's five years old or more. Ok, maybe only four years but no newer than that.
In any event, maybe if we keep talking about it, SOMEONE will come up with it.

"CSABA CSERE
Cult-car alert! Twenty years from now, the SRT-6 will be one of those scarce machines that will command a prominent location at concours across the country. Just consider its exotic concept-car-derived styling, its Mercedes-based mechanical bones, and its outstanding acceleration, handling, and braking. Unfortunately, although the SRT-6's performance neatly splits the difference between a 350Z and a Corvette C5, its sticker price is near the Vette's. Furthermore, this performance comes only with an automatic gearbox. Customers attracted to this feature will not likely appreciate the SRT's firm ride. In other words, the SRT-6 is destined to be a rare bird."

The writer met the CF owners on the trip to the Dragon, photos were taken on the overpass to nowhere.
I am almost positive this quote was on the bottom of a picture on one of those "top ten" lists. I thought it was msn autos but I cannot find it. If it is embedded in the image (slideshow) Google will not pick it up.
So far I only found this from an interview at the Woodward Dream Cruise with Chas. (link below)
He said...the SRT6 is subtle and different
"The lack of advertising has created a cult following," Knight said. "You had to really know about this car to appreciate it."
