Default DIY Cup Holder

I've researched this forum trying to find a DIY cup holder. I found a few, but decided to do it differently. This looks kind of hokey, but it is a prototype. I've tested it for a few hundred miles and it works well. This holder was left over from stuff I had from my Harley days. After removing the handlebar bracket I lashed it (with wire ties) to the door pull bar. No holes were drilled in the door panel and it will not damage anything. Hope the photos attach.

I guess it could be "scary" to some. Based on my size, how I grip the steering wheel, the telescopic position of the wheel, and the left turns I've safely made in the last few hundred miles, I have not yet encountered any problems. What could be scary though, in IMHO, is where the holder would end up if the side airbag were deployed. LOL

Thanks. If you look at photo #2 in my gallery...it shows the cup holder from a better angle. If it tests out well, I will paint the cup holder so it looks better. What I found interesting, is that the door pull bar is not round, but more of an oval shape. That allowed the wire ties (in an X configuration) to hold the top of the cup holder against the door with a little pressure. I glued a piece of leather to the top of the cup so it would not mar my door panel and glued a sponge in the bottom of the holder to absorb condensation. I just like tinkering...an ailment of the retired.

It looks safe to me. As long as you never need to turn left in a hurry.

Lots of people turn left when their medical insurance gets maxed out.
I still think Red Green would have done a better job with a large tin can and some duct tape.

Maybe you'll get lucky and Obama will move North to redesign your health care system. Lol

Regarding Red Green, I suspect he is more inventive than both of us.

Per your request, here's an update: My cup holder is still in place...very user friendly...no spills or wrecks yet. Even let two friends drive as I rode along.... no complaints, spills, or wrecks. I like all but the looks. DIY at your on risk...LOL.

Default DIY Cup Holder

There have been several cup holders posted on the forum. This is one I purchased at Camper World. Glove box can be opened with the cup in place.

Ahh, I see the bubble compass as well. How does the cup holder mount, screws, adhesive?

I like it! Very sanitary and out of the way of every thing. Did you have to remove the console tunnel? How did you attach it?

Default DIY Cup Holder

The cup holder may be attached with screws or double sided tape. I used the screws. I'm not concerned about the holes in the trim. You don't need to remove the console to mount this cup holder.

An earlier post almost exactly a year ago, used screws into the carpet below the console.

Thanks for the cup holder response. Surprised to see your red '04 with the factory chrome wheels -
exactly like my red '04! First time I have seen other factory chromes.
