Default waterpump issues

My water pump is making a racket, so I assume the bearing is bad. I one bought from needswing the other day. I plan on doing the replacement tomorrow. Any advice or tricks I need to know. I hope it doesn't become an all day affair. I have put on new valve cover gaskets and a new alternator in the past, so I think I have some mechanical knowledge. I`m no where near an expert. Wish me luck.

Go to the 2004 Service Manual (CLICK) and go to ENGINE 7 - 37, Take out the bolts and put them in the same hole in the new pump, when the old pump is out transfer them to the old pump. This is so you do not get them mixed up as they are different lengths and sizes. Use the correct torque on the bolts according to their size. Change the coolant fluid while you are at it, why go through that all over again, That is assuming the coolant is more than a few years old.

( recommended coolant is 50/50 distilled water and Zerex G05, around 2 gallons of each should do it, the stated capacity is 9.4 US quarts, although you will not use that much. Do not buy the pre-mixed coolant. )

Use a small mirror to see the bolts, the few on the bottom right are hard to find. Yes bolts are different lengths and need to be started and then torqued to do it right. Enjoy. Woody

Water pump installed no leaks or broken bolts. Success!

I am very curious about the price range for a new water pump. I can understand how/why MB would charge 300-400 and Chrysler 800-900. How do you explain the drop to 75-100 dollars. How are they different?

It is not a "drop" to $100 - think of the dealer's prices as unreasonable markup, because that is what is happening.

Yes I get that, for essentially the same pump MB sells it as 4-5 hundred, then Chrysler has it for 8-9 hundred. Both may well be selling the exact same part same manufacturer MB.
Then if I search around or just read this thread, RockAuto at 115 dollars, on line I see pumps for 75 dollars. These less expensive pumps I assume are from different manufacturers are the MB pumps that much better of a pump?

I believe this is an OEM replacement waterpump, normally $460 on sale for $76.88
http://www.autohausaz.com/pn/1122001501

Also, here's a MB part from a dealer for $165
https://www.mbwholesalepartsonline.c...0200%2015%2001

Personally, I'd spend the $165 and get the Mercedes part. Crazy that the same Chrysler Mopar part is $700-900.
It's the same part number in another post:

Water Pump
Mercedes part#112 200 1501
Chrysler part# 05097159AC ?
or #05097158AA ?
Bosch part# 99176

The parts list for these cars lists spare bearings and seals and if they were readily available then presumably the pump could be repaired for less than the cost of a new pump.
Link does not work and I cannot remove it, sorry.
