Need a new key
Just got off the phone with two Mercedes dealers. Beware...one said
they absolutely can not order the key fob or skreem for Crossfires. The other said they can. The number stated above ending in 106 is the correct number....at least for my vin . Price and avalibility will depend on the dealership...If it is available to you at all. One dealership stated you must pick up the part in person and also provide standard documation. The other states because it is a vin sensitive part, you must let them install it at $165 per hour labor times the total number of hours it takes them to install it. That was Mercerdes. Chrysler said they will not install any customer provoded part. I assume that would be true of Mercedes dealerships, too.

Mdcrossfire - Thanks for the info. It sounds like it would do no good to purchase a new key, unless I misinterpreted your information.
This stuff going on between Mercedes Benz and Chrysler sounds like two little children wanting to fight it out down on the corner. What a pathetic joke! You have to wonder what caused the virile hatred that seems to exist between these two company's. They both must hate so deeply that they are willing to turn away, who knows how much money, and future business. As an example, I will not patronize Chrysler or Mercedes in the future.
So much for diplomacy and care for a customer.

As Rob at Needswings stated, he is not certain he will be able continue getting them in the future. If you are truly planning on keeping your Crossfire for a long time I would invest in a spare now while you still can.
Cheers,

Just a personal opinion Gentlemen, but I think we need to get back to a few post's of earlier and find a way to get around all this electronic gobbel-de-goop. I just can't conceive that thousands of Crossfire's are going to be consigned to the scrap heap because of a key and a SKREEM module. I'm repeating myself, but there has to be some enterprising, young electrical engineer out here that can solve the problem. As 180 said earlier, "If we can find out what goes bad in these things, we should be able to fix them. How hard can it be?". or words to that effect.
Just my 2 cent's worth.

Are talking two different but important things.
1) The SKREEM module
2) Replacement Key Fobs
The second is actually the easier piece with one exception, the RFID chip
Physical key - can be cut by any locksmith
Shell (with key) available on eBay
RKE circuit board - can be programmed in car
RFID chip - I suspect this is actually easy to copy with stuff from eBay or Amazon but I do not know how as yet.
The first, the SKREEM module I suspect is going to be more difficult to create one that "loses its mind" and just ignores the RFID chip.
Can be done, just needs someone to do it.

Padgett - Is there a way to get a message to this man, Josh, outside of facebook? I've tried but I'm getting nowhere with facebook. I can't even tell if my message is being sent or posted. If you can, let me know. If you prefer to use the private message, that's OK with me. My email is jpmlholian@aol.com if you want to use that.
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks,
