Default Key talk

If you remove the battery from your existing key, will the engine start?😀

Why all the drama about buying keys, ASSUMING that a laser cut key from a auto locksmith would also do the job. Maybe..??

It's not the key cut that is the issue, it is the RFID chip in the fob that enables the engine electronics via the key antenna ring -> SKREEM module -> PTCM

So the fob without a battery will start the engine, because the ring picks up or generates a signal. Then you can operate the vehicle. My question, was again, does the key have a "chip" inserted within the metal stem of the key.
Also, has anyone tried to buy a key from a dealer in Mexico.☺

The chip is in the housing of the key FOB. I know nothing about Mexico dealers but I would be reluctant to send them a copy of my licence, registration and personal info. I'm not sure if Crossfires were even sold in Mexico?

Having traveled Baja on many occasions, and also a Chrysler retiree, I will follow up on the key availability from our dealer in Tijuana.

Yes, cfire was sold in Mexico, and the parts dept at the dealership in Tijuana is selling keys at "triple net",not uncommon at almost every retail store. A mere $780 . The cfire is a cosmic dichotomy, beats a TR6, but a unit that demands way too much from it's owner, for the most part. There is a clean automatic convertible on CL in LA for $1800, going to buy it for parts, what a shame.😬
