transmission +P and -P: examples
can any1 explain how automatic transmission works with the +D and -D?
examples?
for instance, if going at 4,000 rpm and press -D, what happens? how rpms change? and speed?
and if pressing +D instead?
and if there is a link for this, please send it.
thanks

Owner's manual, Chapter called "Starting and Operating"; in the 2005 manual, it's page 139.
If the asshat that owned your car didn't keep the manual in the glove box, you can download it from the tech forums on this site here:

It is simply a manual method to force (well, not force, the TCU will not allow you to change gears if changing gears will overspeed the engine) a gear change.
I don't think ANY of us can predict the exact rpm change between gears, there are five gears and no one has that memorized. In any event, you can't overspeed the engine, as I said, the TCU will not allow a shift that is harmful to the engine. If you get good with the manual + and -, you MIGHT get the car to move quicker - I suppose.
I always used it to downshift as I slow, I've had that habit my whole life - I use the brakes less than the average person.

thanks. thats better.
i ask because my son is considering buying a cf automatic and i was intrigued with the feature.
mine is manual, and as i have been using manual all my life i downshift frequently, but that -D and +D on an automatic is a feature that would like to learn about.
thanks again.
i hope some1 will bring more details...
