is engine hotter than average?
i mean, not that is running hotter than designed for, than expected.
i travel nearby frequently. some 6 miles, 10 minutes. 5 traffic lights.
if, for any reason when i arrive there i open the hood and touch the engine air filter cover, it is so hot that i cant keep my hand on it. and this in about 70f.
temp in the dial shows within limits.
for all the cars i have driven, no 1 is even closer.
there is a shield underneath that blocks the flow of air, and with so many things packed into the engine compartment, there is practically no airflow. just look at any picture.
and takes forever to cool enough for touching, even with the hood up. try doing something, especially if wanting to wash the engine, how long takes so you can do it.
what can any1 tell about this?
am not worried, just curious.

Yes, it gets hot but as long as the temp gauge is within range there is no problem. My SRT6 runs "hotter" as does my turbo 2011 Audi A4 2.0T. It is a larger engine for a small car and the bottom shield both protects the engine as well as directing some air over the sump. And that is why it has 8 quarts of oil.
I use a product called "Wetter Water" added to the cooling system. There are several of these products on the market most will lower the engine temperature from 10- 15%. It's not a huge difference but every little bit helps.
