Default locking/unlocking system

I have a 2005 conv & a 2005 coupe----both locking/unlocking functions fine---doors, gas door, trunk, etc. Noticable difference---when you turn engine off, exit the conv, you never hear the central locking pump run ---when you turn engine off, exit the coupe, you hear the pump run for 5/6 seconds----??? anyone else have similar condition??

The pump does not run unless you command it to, with the buttons on the keyfob or the center console. And even then, it does not take more than 1-2 seconds to lock.

Given these two observations, I wonder what you are actually hearing.

Thanks for the reply---I just assumed it was the central locking pump running---have not actually gotten in the trunk or under the
car to determine---if not the locking pump, then must be the fuel pump??? Car runs fine, starts fine, etc.--If the fuel pump running after shutoff , would that not indicate some type of pressure problem??I would think the fuel system has a check valve to hold rest pressure-------car can set several days----still starts quickly???Problem???
Thanks, Leroy

When you turn the key to "ON", the pump runs for a short time, if the ECU detects that the engine has not started, the pump is disabled.
It is also disabled when you turn the key to "OFF". The logic is as follows: Key must be ON + engine must be running = fuel pump running.
The only exception is at start up, the pump is allowed to run a short time to build pressure for engine starting.

You are right, fuel pressure remains in the rail for some time after engine shutoff; however, the pump can build up to 56psi almost instantly. To witness this yourself, simply connecct a fuel pressure test kit to the schrader valve on the end of the fuel rail.

This kit is awesome, it comes with everything you need to verify fuel pressure in the Crossfire and (oddly enough) the Ford Ranger - the two vehicles I own:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/otc-5630

It makes fuel pressure testing as easy as checking your tire pressure (Just don't use it with a hot engine).

I still don't know what sound you are hearing......

PG(Mark)---thanks for your reply----I will get the Coupe on the lift maybe tomorrow with little wife as driver---with me underneath by fuel pump---have her start car ,turn off, then open the door. That is when I hear the fuel pump , or the central locking pump running-----got to be one of them---will let you know what I find.
Thanks, Leroy

~ I hear the central locking pump run for an extended period of time on one of my Crossies after pressing the lock, or unlock button, whether the FOB or the dash button. It stops on its own, but runs for a few seconds after the lock or unlock function is called.

Thanks for the comments/observations---Perhaps I did not make what is happening very clear in my first post-----the locking pump(I have verified it is the central locking pump), after driving , I stop, turn engine off, remove key, then open door to exit, you hear the pump run for 5/6 seconds. The pump turns on, runs ---have not pressed any button on fob. Pizza Guy I believe mentioned that the pump would only run if activated by the lock/unlock dash switch , or key fob buttons.. My concern is that this does not appear to be normal operation--PROBLEM ???

Alcon,
1. Assuming the driver/passenger doors are locked prior to exit, simply pulling the interior door handle will activate the lock/unlock pump and unlock both doors. I suspect the "you hear the pump run 5/6 seconds" is actually a leak in the pneumatic airline at or near the door handle actuator. Over time they get brittle/worn.

Tim points out a reason the pump would run. There is another thing that happens: If the car is sitting, locked, and you press unlock, the pump runs and unlocks the doors. IF you DO NOT open a door, in a matter of I think 20 seconds, the pump will automatically relock the doors! This has caught some people off guard, including me.

I do find it odd that you hear the pump run for 5-6 SECONDS, that is a LONG time and is simply not normal.

Cool Re: locking/unlocking system

These posts are very helpful. What is the location of the Central Locking Pump? I assume it is in the trunk?
- LIke others my crossfire door locks are unresponsive to selection, I recently replace my noisy fuel pump, so now i can hear for a moment a slight motor run when "lock" is selected.

i appreciate your reply.

Yes, it is in the trunk, under the floor. I suggest you first use the search feature at the top of the page for tons of info.
