crossfire: what you like and what not
The Crossfire's Mercedes underpinnings provide exceptional mechanical foundation. Regular servicing maintains dependable performance extending to high-mileage examples.
Love the shape and look of this car. The curves, the fins, the longish hood with the short tail, the modern multi-style headlights and one of my all time favorites - the rear view mirrors outside of the car are the most beautiful rear view mirrors I have ever seen. So unique, so futuristic. I know taste is subjective but I have read a few times recently that people think the Mercedes SLK R170 platform has aged really well and the Crossfire is just "old"/"dated". Will never understand that statement. I find the SLK so outdated and really nothing special at all.
Also, so many have complained about the interior. I find the Crossfire interior so much more refined, sleek (think chrome door handle) and AMG seats in the NA Crossfire, that I feel ten times more comfortable in the Crossie than an SLK from that gen.
What I don't like and find really weird, is something I heard about a while back and did not believe. I recently wanted to get new motor mounts put on. I called a few independent European car repair shops. They cut me off in the middle of the sentence and said "let me stop you there, we do not work on Crossfire because parts have been virtually impossible to find". I proceeded to tell them, that we won't need any body parts just the drivetrain, which is 1:1 Mercedes SLK32 AMG but they still would not want to work on it.
One shop said "even the SLK parts are hard to come by" (total lie and weird coming from a European car shop that has BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi) written on his Audi.
Then one other shop said he would like for me to order the parts as they are so hard to find. Like don't they use google? I Know most of them go by VIN but they should know how to get Mercedes SLK32 AMG Motors Mounts/Transmission mounts. If you really can't find that with your supplier, just use a random VIN for a 32 AMG for your research.
That was bizarre.
