So the newer ones basically work like the newer household dimmer switches that rapidly turn the power on and off at various rates to achieve the level of brightness one wants only in this application it results in the blower fan speed one selects.

I tried to separate my HVAC control module to get into the circuit board and clean everything. When the two parts separated, the horizontal board remained in the housing. How do I get it out?

Pull on it carefully, it just slides in a slot.
