Went out and watched it too. It did pass close to the moon visually though there was 283,000 miles of separation.
Niel Armstrong set foot on the moon when I was 20 and I was convinced that by the time I was 50 I could get a job on the moons of Jupiter. How did we let the exploration of space slip to the bottom of our priorities?

How bright was it?
I've always wanted to see it but never caught a time where it was available.
As for space exploration and all politics aside, I think it is vital for our species to continue. The work done by the rovers on Mars is breathtaking even if it lacks what the general population would consider exciting news.
I remember doing book reports on Neil Armstrong as a kid and still admire him for being an individual with what Gene Kranz called a "towering inteligence." I think that has some part is what drives me to this day to learn everything that I can. He and the other astronauts at least presented to the public some examples of what can be achieved besides pro sports athletes and music celebreties.
I just finished a book called "Carrying the Fire" by Mike Collins about his career and the first lunar landing. It is a good read for anyone interested.

The above link provides a guide for when you can see the ISS fly overhead. I think it was last year that one of the shuttles was in orbit with the ISS and you could see both of them flying across the sky each evening.
Mike - I'm surprised you didn't hop in your car and chase the space station just to prolong your viewing enjoyment.
