Pioneer DEH-P5000UB $119 from Amazon

This is the head unit I installed, and I am very happy with it. If you have a spare $120, a great deal.

Hi Max,
I have the factory Nav Unit, will I have any issues going with this HU? I don't have an iPod (really don't need another device) but have plenty of USB media.
Any suggestions from you are always apreciated...
Respectfully,
Paul (MisterTaz)

This unit will treat/control up to a 250Gb thumb drive just like an iPod.
Here's a link to the manual in .pdf:

I looked it over and it looks like you just have to have a certain file structure/hierarchy.
Quite soon I will be installing a 6' long USB extention cable to reach from the back of this head unit to the center console bin. (down along the shifter and e-brake). The head unit automatically recognizes a flash drive or an iPod and just "does it". As for installation to replace a nav unit, you will need the Scoche wiring harness and a wiring diagram. I'll get the wiring diagram to you, but you'll have to buy the harness. Look in the "how to install an aftermarket stereo" thread. The part number is in there. Once you have the harness, it's plug-n-play.
And a wonderful play it is...
If you decide to get one, I'll coach/guide you through it.
Oh, of course you'll lose the nav'.

Thanks Max!
I think I am going to order this. Hey a few more mods and I may have a "cool" yellow version of the MaxFire!
Hopefully we can hook up sometime so I can share a bit of my favorite single malt with you for the help (I'm sure it will help my conscience to sleep a bit better, like I need an excuse!
).
Thank you for all your help...

Paul (MisterTaz)

Hey, I'm sorry. MINE is called the MaxFire. You'll have to change it! Copyrights and all. I'm sure you understand?
I am attaching the Scoshe wiring harness manual.
If you have any other questions, we'll exchange phone #'s?

I just figured out that these have been superceded by a new model xxx-x5100xx
It is almost all black. Not too suitable for our cars interior.

what i like better is that it will play WAV files from the thumb drive. i don't deal much with lossy files any more.

I was mistaken. 250Mb minimum, 250Gb maximum. MSD rated USB device. WMA, MP3, AAC and WAV files.
A complete list can be found on page 52 of the manual found in post #3.
I edited the earlier erroneous post to reflect my stupidity!

i thought it was higher, i just didn't have my manual handy, and i figured the guts of the radios had to be pretty close to the same.
i've got 238 gigs of music (probably 95% lossless) on an external drive but i don't think i need it all in the car at once. nice to know that i can though.

Same price they were 1 year ago. Apparently the crash isn't affecting personal entertainment!

Ive got one I never use. Less than 2 hours use pm me. I also have this pioneer unit and love it. I installed a USB cable and routed it to my glove box. It makes it easy to swap-out or add music to my USB drive. I also painted the trim ring silver to blend in with the silver trim of the interior.
And now I have the same one in my car !!!
Today I installed the Pioneer DEH-P5000UB stereo in my Crossfire.
Thanks to my good friend Crossfirefrank for giving me this stereo and with some help from him and Max (maxcichon) I got the harnesses I needed and the correct wiring diagrams and I installed it myself.
I used the Scosche VW01B wiring harness and the Scosche VWA3B Radio Antenna Adapter both available on ebay.
I have to say the sound is AMAZING !!!
I never thought I would change the head unit in this car but now I am so glad I did.
It is no longer available on Amazon though
Helpful installation tips are also in this sticky thread:

So, Valk ... you didn't do the wiring cut on the amp and run wires to the subwoofers to get the true four channel imaging?
I may just try your solution on my new to me Pioneer DEH--P9600MP just to get it in my car...

No need to cut any wires on the actual car and you can easily just unplug the harness and plug the OEM back in if you ever decided to.
It really sounds much better than the OEM too !!
