Default Anyone have a Blaupunkt Hamburg MP68?

I'm thinking of getting one and wondered if anyone here has one.
Looking for feedback on how you like it and a picture of one installed in a Crossfire

Thanks,
Kurt

shoot - I just de-installed my MP57 a couple of weeks ago. It looked good, of course not the same color as the dash. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics though.

Several have. Search is your friend, but like any friend, it can be confusing at times. User bhays did it last year. Link is here. Second picture in the thread.

Yeah, I'd found that. I was hoping for a better picture and feedback. I have pm'd bhays.

Ive had mine for a few years now, but i thought they were discontinued??

What i *did* do is open up the head unit and crush the white LEDs that surround the ring; theyre waaay too bright and got annoying/distracting at night.

I was able to buy a new-in-box Hamburg MP57 from Amazon Marketplace last week. The actual seller I believe is called Midwest Audio. The MP57 is the same head unit (Hamburg) as the MP68, but with a different faceplate with no numeric keypad, which doesn't bother me because everyone I call is a contact and my Android phone has voice recognition to dial them anyway. I had an Amazon discount coupon handy so I got a deal, but they're listed at $150, which isn't a bad price at all for a name-brand head unit with Bluetooth. Blaupunkt have, as far as I know, discontinued their head units in the US market. It's a shame since they're one of the few companies that seemed to get that nobody wants a disco ball in their dash - they want a better car audio system.

I'll write back with pictures and a little more information tomorrow once I get everything installed - I think I'm going to clip the hands-free phone mic near the top of my A pillar (and possibly wire my radar detector up by my mirror at the same time), and I'll have to come up with some sort of mounting system for my phone so I can plug it into the aux-in for music, since while the MP57 does support phone headset Bluetooth it doesn't support music Bluetooth (A2DP).

Hi, I have one (MP68), I suggest you....

1. If you are technically adept, you can use red (or blue, or green) touch-up paint to "mask" the bright white LEDs on the main **** surround

2. Look around on E-b*y for an SLK upper interior map light housing. It is a drop in fit for the Crossfire, and it has (at least one I have) a microphone for audio input to bluetooth car stereo integrated right into the assembly.

Excellent head unit, remember to interface the amp outputs direct into infinity amp (do not use low-power inputs, not enough signal to drive amp). I installed a rear amp as well, driving a 6" component set in hatch area, sounds much better balanced front/rear.

I'm also looking at the MP68, and thanx for the Amazon link to Midwest Electronic:

Blaupunkt Hamburg MP68 - Midwest Electronics

For a sanity check, I thought the MP68 was plug and play on the wiring harness...???

Do you need to rewire at the amp input to drive with the hi-power and not the low-power leads...???

Thanx...

The MP68 is plug-and-play.

No rewiring is necessary except for to clip one wire (I think it's pin 2, but please please please read around as I can't remember for sure) to prevent the radio from getting stuck in Telephone mode.

With plug-and-play wiring, the speaker-level outputs will be wired into the amp similarly to how the stock system is set up. This is not ideal but works.

An ideal system will involve running some RCA cables down to the amp, and connecting the pre-crossover outputs from the head unit to the amp. The MP68 comes with the necessary connector breakout to do this (although obviously not wires). You can read up on how this is done elsewhere on the forum.

Thanx for the heads up on the crossover wiring.

It's winter in the Northeast and my XF is taking a nap, waiting for the Spring thaw.

I'll be ready to tackle the headunit replacement then, and will search the Forum for details.

I'm lost without handsfree calling and bluetooth streaming.

I have Microsoft Sync on my Ford Truck and with my Android have come to depend on it (quite a bit)....

How did you hook up the mic? Did you have to run wiring or is the wiring already in the harness?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I would also be interested on knowing how the mic was hooked up with the MP68.
