Default Antenna Replacement

Considering changing the OEM antenna to a 3" short stub style antenna. Does anyone have experience with these? Is radio reception performance compromised?

The reception from the original (factory nav system) is very poor. I swapped out for a 2.5" stubby ebay special and reception is worse than the original. I like the looks of the stubby and I listen to XM more than FM so I'm ok with it. My $.02

I bought a 3" carbonfiber stubby on Ebay, it's great for car shows, sucks for reception.
Good thing is it is easy to change, both just screw on to the stub.
