No sound system for the roadster...
No sound system for the roadster...
I went to the best audio/video shop in town and they told me that since the crossfires roadsters have a metal plate between the trunk and the cockpit seats, that hardly any vibrations from a sub enclosure in the trunk will even pass through to the passengers and therefore render the entire idea useless. So he suggested unless i wanted to do some custom mod that had to do with molding and stuff in the cockpit area, i should just stick to upgrading speakers and forgetting about a box with subs.
Is this guy full of crap? Has anyone a roadster with a box in the trunk?

Re: No sound system for the roadster...
Thats mostly true. Convertibles in general are very hard to put sub systems in that you can actually hear inside the car. The other Sound Advice here in Miami built a custom box for a JL 6 between the seats. another option would be to build a box in the passenger footwell area. You will loose some leg room on the passenger side, but this gives you the best sound. We do this in Porches and Ferraries all the time. It is a very difficult box to build properly, but it can be done. I don't have any pics of it either.

What are your thoughts on this...
Dual 200 watt 10" bazooka setup with an amp.

It's cheap, and something tells me that'll be enough power to feel?

Or how about just one 18" solo baric...

Will that be enough to feel? (in the trunk that is)...

Re: No sound system for the roadster...
i talked with a couple buddies who do custom installs, and we are going to get together in about two weeks to find the best possible way to do this roadster system. there is a possibility that i may have to "slightly adjust" the metal plate, but that's not too big of a deal. i'll probably have to take off the folding cargo piece and just jump the switch. both of my friends think that i will be able to get some pretty good thump, although not quite as good as a coupe. i'll post some pics of my findings.

Re: No sound system for the roadster...
A week ago my shop put a JL stealth box built for the Lotus we were doing, the interesting thing was it fit in the front of the passenger foot well. It used a JL 10 inch and sounded damn good. There is a idea for you roadsters needing bass. Yes, it takes some custom work, but good sound for a good looking car is well worth.
