From what can see it looks like it would be a good fit. All the pins seem to be in the right places. To remove the radio you have to use the removal tools inserted in the slotted holes in the bottom corners of the radio. I don't know where you get the tools from mine came with my radio when I bought it.

I'll keep you posted.

Well my friends, I did a temporary install just now (basically just pulled the head unit, and plugged the PhatBox. This could have not been any easier. It's plug and play. You can control the unit from your OEM unit. I'm so exited I couldn't wait to share the good news with you. Now all I have to do is take it to get professionally installed. This means basically running the cable from the back of the unit to the trunk, or behind one of the seats, and fasten the unit. I don't trust myself running the cable, as I I'm pretty good at taking things apart, but not as confident putting them back together again.

So in summary, the PhatBox works with our unit, as long as it's an OEM w/NAV. It's the version for Becker Traffic Pro. If anyone is interested, I'll hook you up with the guy who sold me mine. My price was $350.00 delivered. It has a 20 GB drive, that can be upgraded up-to 120 GB, and software to manage your music, and a cradle to hook up to your PC. But, 20 GB can hold a library of 10s of thousand songs. This is a great alternative to a CD changer, or Ipod connector.

MMZ, Iamfink2, Infinity, and Roy, thanks for all your help.

FP

Very cool, Happy that it works. Btw. It's easy to run cable to the back. There is room on the pass side floor board and there is already a hole/slot in the "bulkhead" behind the seats (at least on a coupe). Your installer should not have to drill any holes. Take pics of the install when you get it done.

I've received a couple of PMs on this, If I can be more clear, The OEM NAV unit that comes on the XF is a Becker TrafficPro unit, and Phatbox makes a unit for the TrafficPro. In fact all the phatboxes are the same, the only difference is the connector to the head unit, and the software to recognize a supported OEM radio. They do have some aftermarket radio support as well. The OEM support is growing. At this time I believe it's, VW, Audi, Volvo, Jaguar, Toyota, Ford, and TrafficPro. Check out their site if you want to look further into aftermarket model support.

I apologize for the double thread.

So if you have the original OEM unit with no nav, it won't work?

I am not sure. All I know is that the NAV unit is the TrafficPro.

Maybe infinity can answer this question.

Well I thought the only difference on the NAV unit was the GPS Antenna slot and of course the extra button / dvd discs.

Did you have to plug in anything to the headunit BESIDES the plug?

Are you saying the radio without the NAV, does not have the a CD button? It requires the plug for the external CD changer, that's where the Phatbox plugs into.
The only reason I say it's compatible with our NAV unit is because the Trafficpro is a Nav unit as well.

There is nothing else to plug in. BTW, here a demo on how it works.

good thing about this is that you could tap into the CD Audio input on the jack for the phatbox
and use that as an ipod input.

thought i am not sure if you can pause the phatbox so you hear the ipod only or you could play
an empty mp3 (mp3 track filled with silence).

You wouldn't happen to know if it'd work with the non-GPS head units, would you?

No it will not. The standard unit does not offer the CD changer option unless something has changed since 2004. The difference is more than just a GPs ant.

I am not familiar with the other head unit. Is it made by Becker and does it have a cd changer connector?

Alternatively, the easiest headunit to substitute is any Kenwood model with CD changer control. I can provide a compatible phatbox for this.
