Thinking of getting this head unit.
After my cd changer fiasco I am thinking of getting this head unit.
It's a JVC KD-LX551.
The reason being as it takes SD memory cards so I don't need to mess about with cd changers.
It also plats MP3 cds and takes an Ipod connection.
I took the face plate out to try it against the car and it's a fairly good match.
What do you think?

Thanks.
Norrie.

Looks like it might be a good match! The only thing that would bother me (maybe not you!) would be the blue backlighting.
But be sure to take pictures of the install / after it's all done and keep us updated!

the illumination can be changed to 1,000+ other colors... you can even have one color for day and one color for nighttime.
its a great unit BTW, a couple of us have them.

one more point: the blue volume button illumination cannot be changed. i took my faceplate apart and blacked out the lighting so the volume button no longer lights up --
i already have it installed in my car, very good sound quality, and looks good too.

Most of the big dealers stopped selling it a while ago. I picked one up a short time ago from PAC-2000 for $225. I think they still have them. Google PAC-200 and then search for KDLHX550.
You can set the daytime and night time colors to switch automatically and as former NXMX5 said, there's thousands of colors to choose from. I use white in the daytime and matching green at night. You can even make a Chrysler or Crossfire logo animation with the software they give you. Makes a good start up screen.
You can even make it talk to you like an old Chrysler K car.

Does anyone know if this unit displays Artist/ song title on regular radio stations that send out this signal (not every station does) like the OEM stereo does?
Or does anybody have a different head unit (silver) that does. I'd really hate to loose that feature.

There are still a few left on PAC 200 for $225 and i'm debating buying on tomorrow as that is when there five day sale ends. After research I think it "sounds' awesome. Any tips from ones who already have it. I'm big on Chrysler OEM stereo's but it matches the interior so well. Any advice before I buy tomorrow?

How does this unit sound compared to the stock unit? I see it is 22W x 4 (RMS) 52 W X 4 Max MOS-FET Power Amp but how does that compare to that stock unit? I couldn't find any specifics about it in the owners manual. I really enjoy the amount of bass I have with my current setup but I'm very interested in this one if it still kicks as hard. Anyone know?
I liked the sound of the factory unit in my roadster with the top down. Not so much with the top up.
By comparison, the JVC seems clearer and will play really loud without distorting. Its got an equalizer control and audio presets so you should be able to dial it in to your liking.
