Default CD player searching noise

I have a question about noise in the upgraded CD player in my 2005 roadster. I've searched the archives and found a number of posts about clicking noises in CD players, but my noise isn't that. Instead, if I have a CD in the player but am not playing it (playing the radio instead, playing nothing at all), the CD player is constantly in "search mode". It sounds just like the noise one hears when accessing a CD in a computer, for example, but quieter. It only stops when I either play the CD or remove it. Is this normal for the upgraded CD player? It is driving (pardon the pun) my wife and I nuts!

I have the same issue with a "CD seeking noise" coming from my radio. Same with me, it goes away when a CD is playing. I asked the dealership about it, and they just replaced a radio under warranty. Then the noise came back pretty quickly thereafter. I'm trying to find the answer to this as well.

People on this forum know a lot more about Crossfires than dealerships I've gone to. I had a problem with my supercharger not working each and every time. Found out, through this forum, that it was a bad pump that works with the supercharger.

If I recall, in most cases it occurs when you turn on the car with a CD in the player, but not playing (listening to the radio - or nothing at all). If you eject and re-insert the CD, the problem goes away. I don't think there is any known fix other than that. I don't know if getting your dealer to swap it out fixes it, but I think most are thinking that one day they'd like to replace the unit with a more current aftermarket model anyway.

I've found that as long as I don't have a CD in the CD player when I start the car up, the sound isn't there. Thanks for the advice!
