I am the proud new owner of an 07 Crossfire Coupe. I'm preparing to replace the factory radio with something that will support navigation and Sirius built-in. Does anyone know if the factory GPS antenna will work connected to an aftermarket navigation radio?

I'm going to pull the factory radio (navigation system) and replace with something else. I'd like to replace it and keep the factory GPS antenna.

Any help on a replacement unit/system would be greatly appreciated.

I know I'm replying to a really OLD message here, but I just bought a replacement radio with GPS functionality myself, and was wondering the same thing.

What I found is that in my case, no ... I have to use the GPS antenna included with the stereo, rather than re-connecting the one from the factory radio. I don't think there's any functional difference between the two GPS antennas, really -- but the problem is with the non-standard connector on the end of the factory one. The Clarion stereo I have uses a GPS antenna with a square plastic snap-in connector surrounding the small metal connector on the end of the wire, and the round black plastic connector on the end of the factory one isn't going to snap in there properly. I believe there's a difference on the inside of the metal connector too. Looks like one has a small pin inside and the other has a socket for a pin.

 

I have the factory single disc CD player radio. Does anyone know if the radio has anytype on input connectors on the back/ or hidden from view where I could plug in my cell phone and using Bluetooth play internet radio. I have been using a FM modultor add on unit and it works ok, but don't like the clutter. Thought about something that usings a t connection to the ant. that would allow me to use the ant as an input if there are no other inputs on the back. what about the floor board amp, are there any spare inputs on it?

 

No, the factory radio doesn't give you any extra inputs in the back for anything like that. About the only unused input it has is one for a 6-disc CD changer, which Chrysler never even offered as an option. (The German company, Becker, who made the radio sold one over in Germany that's compatible - so a FEW people got ahold of them through eBay or what-not and used them with their Crossfires.)

I know I've seen devices in the past that work like FM modulators, except they have a T connector that allows attaching them between the radio's antenna jack and the antenna plug, so the signal is injected right in with the least amount of interference.

The factory amp isn't going to have any spare connectors on it for what you want either. People have been cutting the signal input wires and splicing RCA jacks onto them so line-level outputs from aftermarket stereos can be run directly into them. But you can't just splice 2 pairs onto one set of wires and expect 2 audio sources to share the amp. The signals will cancel each other out and overload the input....

What you *could* do, I suppose, is to build a simple mixer circuit that accepts 2 sets of RCA line level inputs and send the mixed/combined signal to the amp. There are actually diagrams on the net telling you how to build one, because others have done this before.... but you have to know a little bit about electronics.
