Easy Fix: Door Speaker Rattle
My right door main speaker has been having a rattle noise to it for a little while now, and it was driving me nuts. The speaker was ok, I just hated hearing something rattle in the door when I'd go over a bump in the road, or the bass would be thumping.
I read a few articles that I'd have to take off the door panel to get to the speaker, which I figured was the culprit based upon some minor "thump" tests (kinda like testing the ripeness of a melon).
I printed the sheets from the manual on removing the panel, and was starting the process. These are not the easiest instructions by the way, so I was thinking I was looking at some time investment. Go slow, don't mar the panel, fixtures, etc.
I got to looking at the chrome ring around the speaker, and took it off on a slight whim. Noticed the grill was snap in also and got it off in 2 seconds. Viola, there's the speaker and mounting screws.
Tightened all 3 screws on the speaker, cranked the stereo, and checked my work.
No rattle.
Put everything back together and took it for a road test.
Still no rattle.
I'm good to go.
Time to fix: 5 minutes (had to find the right song on the CD and listen to the song all the way through to be sure, but time does not include road test).

When I "crank it up," there is a rattle or (for lack of a better word) a crackle coming from the passenger side whenever the radio is played at pretty high volume. It is really hard to tell if it's coming from tweeter or the mid-speaker. It's almost like:
You know your little pretty cheap shelf stereo system with the 3-disc changer and double tape player? You know how it sounds crackly and distorted when you turn it up? That's what the speakers in my door sound like.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I think i've pinpointed the crackle to be coming from the passenger side tweeter. Is there anything I can get done under factory waranty about this?

I'm TDY right now. I don't have pics. The trim piece that goes around your door handle and the tweeter......take it off. Then listen for squeaks. If they stop, applying felt will eliminate squeaks after you reinstall the piece. (Mine was so bad, when I would press on it, it would squeak like fingernails on the chalkboard.)
I had the door rattle on the right side also. I took the ring and grill off and tightened the screw. It was still rattling so I proceeded to push down on various spots to see where it was coming from. Right where the webbing for the side pocket meets the speaker enclosure is where it was coming from. I was not sure what to do cause it seemed tight. finally I pushed pretty hard to see just how far it would have to come in to stop the rattle. It clicked. and no problems since. Now if I were to guess before hand I would have said it was snapped all the way in. It didnt seem like it was loose at all. But it must have been. Just thought it might help someone else.

Alright. I popped that panel off today, put a square piece of felt (about 3"x3") behind the protrusion on the plastic piece that goes back into the door. From listening to it for about 5 minutes, THERE IS NO MORE RATTLE!
Thanks for everyone's help!

Does it sound like it moves? One time it'll sound like the tweeter, then the speaker.. then the dash... IDK.. maybe it's me going crazy but oh my god this is so annoying..!

I think this is true with all cars. I guess I'll have to learn to live with it...

Guys do the crossfires have rear speakers???? and also do they have a balance control from front to rear? I know they have the left to right control. How about front to rear?
