Default Reception Problems with aftermarket Radio

Ok, so installed a nice aftermarket radio in the Crossfire some time ago. At the time I was all about the iPod integration and built in mp3 storage. I noticed that the radio reception wasn't good. I did car at the time. Now that I'm driving during rush hour, I would like to get traffic reports and morning shows. I bought all the right parts as described on here, but there is a stray wire on the anntenna adapter that goes no where. I asume thsi wire must have something to do witht he reception problem. Does it need to be grounded or plugged in somewhere?

Also, I've triied another aftermarket headunit with the same result. I also tried putting the OEM Radio back in and it came in Crystal Clear. Sorry, I didn't find anything that was helpful with a search...

If it doesn't rain this evening ( car is outside under a cover ), I'll check my setup. I haven't noticed a reception problem nor do I recall a stray wire.

I never fully secured my aftermarket radio in the dash. With some TLC, I should be able to slide it out and check my connections. The only problem is that I have a base coupe which may have a different set of connections.

On a side note, I am having a radio reception problem with my wife's car after I installed an Alpine head unit in it. I need to resolve that soon but I do not relish taking apart her dash again ( 2007 outback ). Most time consuming install I've ever done. I am thinking that the antenna adaptor isn't securly connected. But perhaps its worse than that. I have the exact same Alpine head unit in my Xterra and it gets great radio reception.

This may be a 12VDC power lead for a FUBA antenna.

I have no idea if you need it or where it goes.

Maybe this will help?

Mine looks similar to this one. It came with no instructions, just a bag with this inside and what cars it fit.

Boy, if I didn't know better, I would say that it's an amplified adaptor. Is the bullet connector on the end a male? With the blue wire, It almost has to be...

I dunno'. Expose the wire, tune the radio to your favorite, but weak FM station and touch 12V to it. Make sure it's on a SMALL fuse.

Neverenough,

No luck removing my head unit. At least it shows me that it might not be so easy to steal.

Sorry, but I didn't want to force it out.

However, I can tell you that the antenna adaptor that I got from Crutchfield did not have that extra blue wire that your photo shows.

Good Luck
