Question 12w6 powered by hd 750/1 in ported box??

I am trying to decide what to put in for subs. I'm really leaning towards a single JL 12w6, powered by a JL HD 70/1 amp, and in a ported enclosure. haven't decided on custom or not. how much does it typically cost for a custom box. Would a box that recessed into the hatch side of the wall, with the sub towards the top, facing the back, work? I was told that that amp, and speaker are a perfect combination. Kinda pricey though. ny suggestions are welcome, and thanks, chris

I've recently become a JL Audio fanboy. Just put in a 10w3 with a 450/4 amp and it's amazing. I can only imagine how good a w6 would sound with that 750 amp.

I think JL Audio quoted something like $200 for a custom box (which would just be a regular square ported enclosure, nothing fancy).

However, I found a very nice custom fiberglass enclosure on craigslist for $275 that is already painted HOK Kameleon.

Not sure if that really helps at all but maybe that gives you a base line.

The "wall" that you are referring to actually houses the gas tank.

I would definitely find another place to install a hole.

no building a sub box, that folloewd the contour of the back of it, not as wide at the bottom, and making a straight wall. Might be able to save some space that way. chris

Or, you could keep it simple, and choose something pre-made.

Yeah they suggested a prefab ported box. I just had a thought about saving some space.

I just got a Polk Audio 12" RS and that thing is amasing. The SQ is spot on, best I've seen, and it hits really hard. I still haven't finnished breaking it in and its louder than my old Kove that I had. This last summer I hit 134.9 db's with my old Kove and with only 3/4 volume this Polk is hitting harder than my Kove. The only thing that sucks about the Polk is it has a very long break in time, 60 hours. One more plus is it's very effenent and the sound level goes up the same as the door speakers, so you always have bass even at low levels. I'm hoping the stock door speaker can keep up once I finish breaking it in and turn it up all the way, I don't think they will.

Where did you get that enclosure? Was it a custom, or just something that would fit. Looks like what the local stero shop was talking about. chris

Do they make that for both sides? I'd like to have two 10's or 12's in the back but don't want all the space taken up.

If you put a properly powered W7, you won't need two subs. The crossfire is a great car for bass. I have a 10W7 and a 500/1, and the bass level is incredible.
