Default Body Controller - power window problem

Further to my electric window problem (it doesnt work) it turns out that the body controller is at fault and thats $1000 to repair.

My question is how difficult is it for an auto electrician to fit a replacement rather than taking to a dealer. Car isnt in warranty.

Im thinking of getting one from a scrapped damaged car.

You should check with Beckmann Technologies. They specialize in fixing MB control modules for far less than the cost of new. If they can't fix yours they can also sell refurbished units. I recently sent them an ECU which they fixed and unlocked for my V8 project. Great guys to work with.

Welcome to Beckmann Technologies!

OK thanks ill drop them a call, i think a lot of US suppliers get annoyed at UK buyers as our currency is worth so little these days.

They take credit card payments over the phone and you will be billed in USD and your credit card company will add a small fx fee.

I have one of their unlocked ECU's! Opens up a world of opportunities. Check the last couple of posts by me on the Squires Turbo thread and V8 conversion thread.

Another bookmark added! I wonder if my top control module is something they'd be able to work on/supply - nothing wrong with it, but it's the module I wonder about most often. Not sure why.

I can't get over the fact that these cars are more MB than anything else.

Sounds like a fun company to work for, just got my degree this summer. Maybe I'll send them a resume.

The BCM is under the hood in the box next to the battery. The ECU is there as well. It will take about 5 minutes to replace if you can turn a wrench, so hopefully there is no more than .5 hours of labor in that $1000. If it needs some kind of programming, thats another story.

Im getting the feeling im going to have to pay full price from the UK dealer (or ex dealer as we dont sell chrysler in the UK anymore)

You may want to read up on the module in the service manual. Body controller diagnosis starts on page 8E-36 The link is on this web site. Let me know if you don't find it.

ive had the diagnostics done and the garage said its a faulty Body Control, the motor, switch and wiring are all OK.

Are all the crossfire BCMs the same i.e. UK and US specs. Cant get one from the UK for a reasonable price but there seems to be a few about in the states, if they will fit a UK car?

The body controll unit is in the box next to the ECU. I believe it is the module closest to the fender. Please carefully pull it up so that you can write down the Mercedes part number. The MB number starts with an "A" I can check and verify if it is the same as the USA cars. One thing I worry about is coding the car. It may contain the VIN number which could make things rough on you. You may also want to check with Mercedes and see if you can order the part number on your module. I have found MB to sometimes be cheaper than Chrysler. I will be at an independant MB shop today working on my car and will ask the tech about replacing body control units.

There is also a step by step procedure for checking the body control unit and you may want to run through that to ensure it was diagnosed correctly.

I dont know if this is your problem but here is a tech tip on the BCM... If you are replacing the Body Controller Module (05099700AA, 05136131AA, 05189811AA) due to backlight issues or window does not go down when turning handle to open convertible top, check the status of the header switch with the top closed. The switch should be in closed position. If the switch is in open position, then replace the header latch plate switch (05166831AA
