decibel levels ???
For all of you stero guys, I just downloaded an app for my new droid, that measures decibel levels. I have done a little reading on the net about various sound levels. I got my stero to hit 119.7 db. where does that rank in the car stero world. Granted this was taken from around the steering wheel area. Just curious if this app is actually reliable to an extent. thanks, chris

Dangerous Decibels: About Hearing Loss
What 180 is saying could not be more true, but I love my music
I hit 154.2 in a truck I had with 4 15's, that being said, I think my XF is in the low 140s (have never tested). With 2 12's in a custom ported box, it is LOUD. The 120 seems low for the equipment you are running. How loud did you have it turned and did it seem excessive? (ie: vibrating your hair, making a cup of water shake so hard it overflows, etc.
)
I figure a car DB meter on a phone is not going to be that accurate, especially considering extremely precise meters used in competitions generally cost 10's of thousands of dollars, but it sounds like a cool app, I will have to see if it is available for the Palm Pre, what is the name of the app?

+1 what 180 said..... sound damage ACCUMULATES over time...I have been in shooting sports for over 30 years... my high freq hearing isnt so good anymore... WHAT!..... be nicer to your hearing...
it was just a free app, called decibel meter. And I am aware of damage to hearing caused by very loud noise. At work we have to have to wear earplugs, due to around 90 db. That was just a test to see what the phone would read. As far as the droid, it is my first smart phone. I just wanted a real keyboard, as well as the touch screen. I don't use it very much, but have to charge it daily. Oh yeah vibrations, Hats, hair, clothes, eyes. I wasn't looking for an spl setup. Just trying to buy it right the first time. All of my previous setups were with used equipment. I would say that the amp is more than the speaker really needs. chris
