Default Thinking in upgarding to a Radio with IPOD

Yesterday in Best buy I looked at the new SONY DSX-S100, it comes with a tray for the IPOD that hides D inside the radio, cool idea. Per BEstBuy the radio should fit but I need a wire harness for the installation.
Any experience with this radio and BestBuy installations?

Also while there I thought I could upgrade the speakers with a set of POLK 6 1/2 speakers, Any experience with them? Does it makes sense or should I keep the ones that came with the car.

Any alternatives to the SONY will also be appreciated...

Thanks ... Pablo

Well, I don't have any personal experience with that head unit, but as long as it does what it says it is supposed to, it seems like a decent deal. I'm not too big of a fan of Sony head units, the DACs they run seem to make music sound tinny to me, but if you aren't an audiophile, it should do the trick. I do like the integrated iPod tray, though, definitely unique. I would suggest listening to it and comparing it to other units before committing to a purchase, just to be sure. You never know, you might end up not liking it as much once you try it out. When it comes to digital media receivers, my biggest point of contention is how easy the music menu is to use and browse through. Having an iPod with 5,000 songs connected to your head unit sounds great, unless that head unit takes 45 seconds just to find the particular song you are wanting to listen to.

As far as Best Buy installs go, they can be hit or miss. Personally, I wouldn't let them install a battery in my remote for my head unit, let alone the whole thing, but that is just personal preference. I've found that it is much more beneficial to develop a close relationship with a reputable auto mod/install shop as you will get more quality work and know you can trust them when you deal with them regularly.

Just my two pennies.

Thank you for your comments, I will take the ipod to bestbuy and try how the unit handle the lists and the search.
What are the brands that you feel have abetter sound that SONY, the one you have in our car is a little bit our of my price range, but I could go tto $200 if it will make the sound better.

Should I need to think on changing speakers as well? if so which ones, just the middle range on the door or the bass on the back?

Given your budget, I'd recommend trying to find a comparable Pioneer unit, Best Buy generally carries a decent selection of them. In the end, though, it's all about what you like and what makes you happy. Everyone has a different ear for sound reproduction and everyone has their own preference as far as what type of user interface they prefer.

Upgrading to component speakers and installing a crossover to limit the bass from the door speakers is highly recommended from other forum members and relatively inexpensive to do. Check the sticky in the A/V section for more details.
